Girl Burned In Car Fire

(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, March 6. A three-year-old girl is dangerously ill with third-degree burns in Wanganui Hospital tonight, after being caught in a car fire at Raetihi yesterday morning.

Two other youngsters in the car were rescued unhurt. The girl burned is Tina Kui, whose parents are Mr and Mrs K. Kui, of Parapara road, Raetihi. At the time of the fire they were visiting friends in Ward street, the car being parked in the driveway to the house of Mr E. Barrett. Tina was left inside the car with her four-year-old sister, Raewyn. and their cousin, Byron Perkins, aged three. The children are thought to have started the fire by playing with matches and setting alight to the upholstery.

This was well ablaze when the cries of the children roused the alarm; They were rescued by willing hands, but not before Tina was badly burned over most of the body. She was tended by Dr. D. W. Klee, of Ohakune, and then rushed by ambulance to Wanganui. The ambulance was escorted through city by a traffic patrol, with siren screaming. The fire in the car was extinguished by members of the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade soon after 11 a.m.
