Apia Wharf Opened
(Special Crspdt. K.Z.P.A.) APIA, March 6. Escorted into Apia harbour by two decorated 40-oar long boats, the first vessel to berth at Apia’s new £BOO,OOO deepwater wharf, the Matua docked at 8 a.ra. on Friday. A crowd of about 3000 was lon hand to see Prince Malietoa inspect a police guard of honour, cut the ribbon and officially declare the wharf open. Speaking before the opening, the Prime Minister (Mr Fiame Mata’afa) expressed the thanks of the Samoan Government and people to the New Zealand Government for underwriting the New Zealand loan that made construction of wharves at Apia and Asua possible. “This is a spirit of cooperation that will continue under the treaty of friendship between our two countries," said New Zealand's Minister of Marine (Mr Scott).
