CARD NOT SIGNED
Leader Was Ruled Out (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) PENSACOLA (Florida). The defending champion, Doug Sanders, after retaining the lead with rounds of 63 and 67 in the 65,000 dollar Pensacola golf tournament on Saturday, was disqualified for failing to sign his score card. Sanders, from California, was four strokes ahead of his nearest rival. He was in the clubhouse celebrating the score when officials of the Professional Golfers’ Association announced his automatic disqualification under rules which specify the player’s responsibilities about his scorecard. P.G.A. officials said this was the first time a tournament leader had been disqualified, but others had been eliminated in previous tournaments and golfers had been warned regularly that they must comply fully with regulations. “It is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard of,” Sanders commented, after being informed of his disqualification. The lead fell into the hands of Gay Brewer, who had rounds of 65 and 69. In second place was Tom Weiskoff. with two 68s. Neil Coles, of England, playing his best golf since joining the American tour, was tied for third place with Dick Hart on 137. R. J. Charles, of New Zealand, was eliminated when he followed his first round 73 with a 78, for 151. The cutoff was 146. The second round had been postponed on Friday after rain had washed out play.
