Nine Schools In Races

The first heat of the intersecondary schools’ yachting for the Peter Mander Trophy was sailed on the Waimakariri river on Saturday afternoon in ideal conditions. Eleven Junior Cherub class yachts from nine schools were competing, the new Christ s College boat, Taki, having its first outing. Results: Shirley B.H.S. (M. Brown and K. Lamb, Truna), 3:26:31, 1; Linwood H.S. <B. Boulton and C. Woods. Kinihia), 3:27:18. 2; Aranui H.S. (T. Rolton and M. Ross, Bellrephon), 3:27:46. 3; Christchurch B.H.S. (R. Tillman and P. Robertson, Mirage), 3:27:59. 4. The first girls’ team to finish was Avonside G.H.S. in sixth place.
