BROMLEY POWER
New Line Ready In 1968 It would be another two years or more before the proposed new power line from Islington to the Bromley substation was completed, said the district engineer for the Electricity Department (Mr R. S. Meredith). The department wanted to have the line operating before the start of the 1968 winter to meet the expected increase in demand for electricity in Christchurch. Mr Meredith said much work had to be done before linesmen could even start erecting the towers. Negotiations with landholders between Islington and Bromley affected by the line had to be completed. Meanwhile, a survey of the proposed route would begin soon. Mr Meredith said representatives of the City Council's reserves department had had further discussions on the proposed route and some useful points had been put forward. When the preliminary survey was completed the department would discuss it with City Council representatives.
