WOMEN’S SOFTBALL
Easy Wins By Leaders The two leading teams, Avon and Monowai, had easy wins over Kalapoi and West Old Girls, while Spreydon caused an upset by defeating Western Suburbs in the women’s senior softball competition. Results: Spreydon 11, Western Suburbs 10. Avon 15, Kalapoi 1. Monowai 11, West aid Girls 3. MONOWAI v. WEST Monowai, lethargic in the field, just managed to hold Old Girls scoreless during the first five Innings. In the sixth innings Old Girls took advantage of Monowai's many errors to score three runs. Monowai, with hits by B. Makinson, N. Beale, and M. Hapuku, scored two runs in the first innings. Its first two batters were dismissed in the next innings, but hard drives and hits by C. Tennant and L. Milligan brought in three more runs. A good three-bagger by Makinson scored the only run in Monowai’s third. Errors and a good bunt by C. Brown enabled Monowai to • add four runs to its score in the sixth. WESTERN V. SPREYDON Spreydon’s slight superiority with the bat was the deciding factor in its win and it gained 11 hits to Western Suburbs’ 9. Top batters were C. Chaplin and P. Lapthorn for Western Suburbs, and H. Diggs for Spreydon. Other results:— Second grade: Avon 3, Monowai 1.
Third grade: West Old Girls 20, Western Suburbs 3; Monowai A 3, Monowai B 1.
