Miss Sonia Cox. of New Zealand. the defending champion, was beaten in the final of the women’s singles in the Middlesex open badminton championships at London on Saturday. She was beaten, 11-6, 11-4, by Miss Sheila Ryder, of Essex. * R. H. Purser (New Zealand) and P. Whetnabl (Warwickshire) won the men's doubles title, beating N. V. S. Martin (Essex) and J. Stanford (Hertfordshire), 15-12, 15-12. In the quarterfinal's of the men’s singles on Friday. Purse lost to Whetnail, 6-15, 12-15. Entertained Patients Members of the Canterbury Society of Magicians recently visited the Sunnyside Hospital Hornby Lodge and entertained patients with an enjoyable programme. The society has entertained the patients on previous occasions and has agreed to visit the lodge on at least one evening each year.
To Carry More.— Mr Mink has been rehandicapped 61b to 9-1 for the Ngamotu Juvenile Handicap at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting at New Plymouth on Monday, March 14.
