Six Months In Holland

Sir, —In “Six Months in Holland,” Mrs Seed says several things about my home country which are not correct. There is no town of Lieden, but there is a Leiden. And. however flattered I am when! she says there are no slums, there are—and they are the main attraction for the foreign visitor. Some houses are too dangerous to live in, and are used only as stores: others are only in use because of the big housing problem. Regarding Social Security benefits I again disagree. On top of what one would get here, there are no doctors’ or dentists' fees for the average workingman. Every payday, a small amount from his wages goes to a fund that pays doc-, tors’, dentists’, and hospital I

costs. There are also unemployment and sick benefits, widows’, pensioners’ and war pensioners’ benefits and family benefit. —Yours, etc., TULIPMONGER. March 4, 1966.
