NEW BRIGHTON TO FORE
VEW BRIGHTON, which faces the drop into the second division this season, has clearly been the outstanding team after the first half of the current indoor soccer competition.
Brighton, under the inspired leadership of its professional, T. Conley, leads the tournament with full points from its six games, and a goal average of 37 for and six against. With a game'in hand of its nearest challengers, Brighton is two points ahead of High School Old Boys.
Hornby has nine points, followed by Western (eight), Shamrock (seven), and Technical and Waterside (six). Shirley-Nomads has five and Police, which defeated University on Monday to move up from bottom equal, four. University has three points and Overseas Carpets bring up the rear with two.
With Conley directing the play and scoring his ration of goals, Brighton has shown all the arts and crafts of indoor five-a-side soccer. The players have been taught to pace themselves through the game, able to turn on the pressure when it is required and slow down the tempo as and when it is required. The young A. Caine is the competition top scorer, while D. Moller is the outstanding defender among the 11 competing clubs.
After a ragged start, when they were outplayed 7-0 by Brighton, High School Old Boys have shown great improvement in recent games, with C. Hicks and P. Kay consistently among the goal-scorers, while Hornby, a second division club, has proved the value indoors of skill, determination and speed.
