RESCUE NOT NECESSARY

Launch Floated Off Bar (N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, March 3. A fisherman sent out a “mayday” call when his launch grounded at the Wairau bar near Blenheim early this morning.

But the search and rescue operation was cancelled when the launch got inside the bar and back to the jetty under its own power. The fisherman, Mr S. Wilson, sent out the emergency call when his launch, Gypsy 11, grounded and appeared to be in danger of sinking. The call was answered by Wellington Radio and the Marlborough Search and Rescue Organisation was alerted.
