The staff of the Department at present comprises 3 Professors—A. L. Blakers (Pure Mathematics), H. C. Levey (Applied Mathematics and Chairman), and J. J. Mahony (Applied Mathematics)—s Readers, 15 Senior Lecturers and Lecturers and 12 Senior Tutors and Tutors. A Readership in Matherne mead Statistics and several more junior positions are at present vacant and fct is desired that these be filled in consultation with the appointee to the Chair. Active research is being carried out in queueeng theory, singular perturbations, functional! analyses, wave-propaga-tion, acoustics, relativiity and electromagnetic theory. It is intended to start full degree work in March. 1967, with limited student numbers in a range of arts subjects and in some science subjects. Other subjects and degree courses will follow.
