Ghana’s new National Liberation Council has appealed abroad fora 50.4-mil-lion-dollar loan to shore up Ghana’s bankrupt finances and pay for urgentlyneeded food. Lieutenant-General Joseph Ankrah, head of the council, said Ghana would seek immediate assistance from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. General Ankrah described Ghana’s foreign exchange position as “chaotic” and said his National Liberation Council would cut Government expenditures, cancel all of Dr. Nkrumah’s prestige orojects, reduce overseas embassies and trim Ghana Airways, which has cost the country millions of pounds.
