Water Meters
Sir, —Could someone inform me as to the number of households in Christchurch that have not got a water meter installed, and the number that have? For the last 15 years I have been told that eventually everyone will get a meter. Why is it that these people, after 15 years, have still not got one? At some of these houses that have no meter their hoses are going night and day. I have seen this. I was told at the City Council office that it was my bad luck that I have to pay excess water rates.—Yours, etc., IRATE RATEPAYER.
February 18, 1966. The acting town clerk (Mr M. B. Hayes) says: “Approximately 39,000 of the 47,821 properties connected to the city high pressure water supply are metered. All new areas added to the city since 1953, and the former boroughs of Brighton and Sumner, are metered. A substantial number of the properties not yet metered are considered to be unlikely to use excess water.”
