Waikato Incomes
Sir, —Your correspondent, “City Dweller,” is as misinformed on items for tax concessions as the Waikato farmer’s wife mentioned. Farmers don’t receive tax concessions for the items quoted. The low taxation incomes of Waikato farmers give them no return for money invested in their properties and also give some indication of the high cost of running good farms. “City Dweller” should get away from the television set for a few minutes and think seriously of this unsatisfactory position which exists in one of our major industries.—Yours, etc., COUNTRY DWELLER. March 2, 1966. Sir, —Can anyone explain to me how a farmer can save tax by buying a new radio, TV, etc., as “City Dweller” suggests dairy farmers in the Waikato are doing? I could do with some of these articles renewed but have not the “know-how” to “get away with it.”—Yours, etc., SIMPLE SIMON. Murchison, March 2, 1966.
