Meter Rise Unlikely

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 3. It is unlikely that Wellington parking meter charges will rise with the conversion. Increases in meter charges in various parts of New Zealand because of the introduction of decimal coins made one of the many problems associated with conversion, said the president of the Municipal Association (Mr A. M. Linton) in Auckland yesterday. In Wellington, however, it is unlikely that anv meters which accept 3d will remain by the time decimal currency is’ introduced. The City Council decided in June, 1963. in line with a recommendation of the de Leuw Gather transportation plan; to double all meter charges in the city. At that time meters through central Wellington accepted 3d for half an hour, but since June. 1963. thev have been progressively altered to accept 6d for half an hour.
