ANTARCTIC ACTIVITIES

Aerial Shots Of Chch. Four United States Navy Hercules aircraft flew in formation above Christchurch on Wednesday morning to obtain aerial shots for inclusion in a 60-minute colour film about this season’s United States Navy Antarctic operation. The filming is being done by Mr R. Faull, a photographer with the American Broadcasting Company. In the last six months he has shot thousands of feet of film for a production which will show to the American public something of the Navy’s huge logistic effort in support of science in the Antarctic. Mr Faull is producing two films. One is for his own company which will be screened nationally in the United States later this year. The other version is for the United States Navy. This latter may be seen at some future Antarctic “at borne” day at the Christchurch airport base. Mr Faull has made a pictorial record of the complete season’s support activities. He flew in on the first plane and was on the last One out. A lot of film was shot during the establishment of Plateau Station. In addition to being a photographer, Mr Faull is also a United States Air Force reserve captain.
