LARGE NEW BUILDING FOR McMURDO STATION.—Plans have been completed for the largest building ever erected in Antarctica. Scheduled to be completed by 1969 at an estimated cost of nearly one million dollars, the building will provide a two-storey barracks for 250 men, a barber’s shop, a ship’s store, dining hall, laundry, and a mechanical equipment area, With an over-all length of 315ft and width of 165ft, the building will be pre-fabricated and erected by Seabees. The building’s 67,693-square foot floor space will give men at McMurdo station the best living conditions in Antarctica.
