TITLE-HOLDERS BACK TO FORM

(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON. A strong head wind sweeping up the 2000-metre course at Lake Karapiro slowed times by more than a minute in many of the repechage heats on the second day of the New Zealand rowing championships yesterday.

A feature of the day was the smooth form of the Auckland provincial title-holders, D. J. Molesworth and T. J. Reid, in the first repechage heat of the senior coxless pairs. In the elimination heat the previous day they were surprisingly beaten by the Wellington No. 2 crew, T. Dobbie and J. Hunter. Yesterday, however, they always had control of the situation and finished six lengths ciear of Wellington No. 3. The Whakatane pair should go well in the semi-finals today, and could still be difficult to beat in the final on Saturday. Visitors Victorious The visiting Nepean dub oarsmen from New South Wales had two wing yesterday. C. Death and L. Calligan won the third repechage heat of the eoxless pain and the second repechage heat of the coxed pairs.
