Safety Of Small Children In Cars
Sir, —The ever-increasing slaughter on our roads moves me to protest against a glaring driving error that I see every day. I refer to the practice of allowing small children to sit on the front seat of a car beside the driver. Recently 1 passed a mother driving with two toddlers standing beside her. There are two serious dangers: a sudden stop can throw the child against the windscreen, and even more important, the mother’s attention is distracted from the road ahead. 1 would like to see a campaign to keep children in the back seat, any person allowing a child to stand on the front seat should be prosecuted for dangerous driving.—Yours, etc., FATHER OF FOUR. March 1, 1966.
