Westport Club Shows Profit
(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT.
The Westport Jockey Club showed a net profit of £1271 on its activities last racing season, according to the report presented at the club’s annual meeting on Monday night, compared with a loss of £2608 in the previous term.
The big improvement was attributed by the president (Mr J. C. Craiig) to the increased allocation from the Totialisator Agency Board for the six days of racing instead of the normal four days conducted by the club in 1964-65.
Mr Craig said that stakes had been increased for the meeting to be held on February 19 and 21. Reference was made to extensive improvements to the course, especially the new concrete block fence down
the straight and around the birdcage. Concern was expressed by some members at the increased charges for operating the totalisator and it was claimed that extra efficiency had not been obtained. It was said that dividend indicators were often astray. Officers elected were:— Patron: Mr A. G. Colvin: president, Mr J. C. Craiig; vice-presidents, Messrs R. C. Borlase and L. J. Menzies; secretary, Mr F. D. Gillespie: treasurer, Mr A. E. Chamberlain: auditor, Mr R. Avery: committee, Mrs T. Hawes, Messrs H. Hill, R. C. Powell, G. McLaughlon, B. L. Lovell, J. Sloan, J. Jones, G. N. Perkins, C. Wilsoncroft, B. Watson, T, Chisholm, N. P. Goghlan, I. Mercer, A. Morris, A. McLean.
