Past Champion Eliminated
(yew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. A former national champion, Mrs M. Nicol, of Mangakino, was eliminated when section play in the New Zealand women’s bowls fours championships continued in Wellington yesterday.
Mrs Nicol, fours champion in 1958-59 and ’6l, has lost all four of her section matches so far. She lost yesterday to Mrs E. Clarke (Marlborough) 26-15, in the third round, and to Mrs J. Wilkie (Lower Hutt) 32-21, in the fourth. Another prominent former champion, Mrs S. Winstanly (Marewa) who also lost both her matches on the opening day, was in much more confident mood yesterday. In the third round she thrashed Mrs R. Pacey (Tera-
whiti). 35-6, and in the fourth she beat Mrs M. Allen (Kilbirnie), 18-13. The honour of recording the biggest win of the day went to Mrs E. Edyvean, of Richmond, her four overwhelmed Mrs Z. Addis (Lower Hutt), 40-9. in the third round, and ' then went on in equally dynamic form to beat Mrs " .1. Soper (Waterlea), 20-16. The 1964 champion. Mrs I. Opie (Hawera), suffered her first defeat at the hands of Mrs A. Winiata (Otaki). Mrs Winiata won, 24-17, and is one of 17 who have already qualified, having yet to lose a match.
