February 9 ST. MARY’S HEATHCOTE.—The neat little church of St Mary, in the Heathcote valley, was consecrated yesterday by the Lord Bishop of the diocese. The church is a small wooden one. and has been open for divine service for some time under the charge of the Rev. G. C. .Cholmondeley. The ground upon which it is built was the gift of Mr. Robert Waite About half-past eleven o’clock the Bishop attended by the Venerable Archdeacon, and the Rev W W. Hillock, was met in the church door by the Rev. G. C. Cholmondeley, who read
the petition for consecration, signed by the Curate and Churchwardens, and his Lordship signified his consent to consecrate the church The Bishop preached the sermon, taking as his text the 17th verse of the 56th chap, of Isaiah. The Rev. G. C. Cholmondeley announced that Divine Service would be performed in the church on Sunday next at 11 a.m. A collection was made, and after the Sacrament had been administered, the ceremony terminated. The church is capable of holding 120 persons, and although very plainly finished in the inside, presents a very pleasing appearance.
