DEATH FROM HYDATIDS
New Brighton Girl
The death of a 10-year-old New Brighton girl from hydatids was among three deaths from notifiable diseases reported in the Christchurch health district last Health Department spokesman said that it was the first death in Christchurch from hydatids since last June. The possible source of infection was being investigated by the Christchurch City Council. Only four cases of hydatids were reported last year. One death resulted from eclampsia, a disease of childbirth, and there was one death from infective hepatitis.
Of seven notifiable diseases reported, four were of infective hepatitis, two of pulmonary tuberculosis, and one of eclampsia. The tuberculosis cases occurred in a woman in her eighties in Christchurch, and a man in his eighties in the Waimairi county. The infective hepatitis cases were those of two persons of unknown age, a teen-age girl and a woman in her twenties, all in the city agea.
