ROYAL RACES
Sparing No Effort (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Queen Mother will go to the races at Ellerslie on May 3. It will be the only race meeting of the Royal tour and a highlight of her visit to Auckland. Two of the four events she will watch have a special “Royal flavour.” They have been named in her honour. One, the Balmoral Steeplechase, carries £3OOO in stake money, and the second, the Glamis Stakes, named after Glamis Castle, one of the Royal seats,’ has prize money of £2OOO. The Auckland Racing Club is sparing no effort in seeking entries that are among the best in the land. As a double incentive the overall stake money has been increased to £14,250 and the club will subsidise transport charges for horses from both islands. The Queen Mother will arrive at Ellerslie between the second and third races and will leave before the two final events. The stake money for the Auckland Racing Club Handicap has been increased by £lOOO for the occasion.
