GOING TO ENGLAND
Bid To Bring Girl To Aust. (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Feb. 7. Mr Reg Powditch will use his entire savings of £NZBOO in his attempt to bring Nancy Prasad back to Australia, the “Australian” reported today. Nancy, a six-year-old Fijian girl, was deported by immigration authorities last year. Mr Powditch, Nancy’s bro-ther-in-law, said in Sydney last night that he and his wife would go to England later this year to adopt Nancy.
"We will, need £AI4OO to make the trip, because we will pick up Nancy at Fiji on the way and we have to spend six months in England to qualify the adoption,” he said.
“I have sold everything I have, but I still don’t have enough money for the trip.”
The New Settlers’ Federation has opened an appeal to raise more money but so far little has been subscribed.
Sydney wharf labourers will also give the entire proceeds of a cabaret, to be held next month, to the appeal.
