BAKERS REFUSE

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 7. Wellington area bakers have rejected £1 an hour to have their Good Friday at home. A meeting in the Trades Hall turned down this offer from employers. The rejection means that there will again be no fresh bread baked on Good Friday in Wellington unless further offers are forthcoming and accepted by the membership. “These men are poorly paid throughout the year, but nevertheless they would rather spend the Easter holiday with their wives and families than work for the money the employers offered,” said the branch secretary .of the Baking Trades Employees’ Union (Mr J. M. Stratford). The president of the Branch (Mr A. M. McDonald) said that just over 30 members had attended the short meeting in the Trades Hall.
