Attack On Communists

The’ army of the neutralist General Kong Le announced yesterday that it had launched an attack on Communist forces in the strategic Plaines des Jarres. A communique said a “purely defensive” operation had started on February 4 against North Vietnamese and Pathet Lao troops at Ban Ban. Khan Kay and the Plaine des Jarres.

General Kong Le commands a 10,000-man force, now closely allied to the antiCommunist Royal Laotian Army. The neutralist army was driven from the Plaine des Jarres by the Communists in fighting in May, 1964.
