3308m. In World
(N Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) WASHINGTON, Feb. 7. The world’s population reached 3308 million by mid--1965, the population reference bureau reported yesterday. If the present growth trend continued the global population would exceed 7000 million by the end of the century, the bureau said. The report said Latin America leads the world in rate of population increase, with Africa and Asia not far behind.
Seven-eighths of the world’s increase in the next 35 years would be in the developing countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, the bureau said. Birth-rate statistics revealed that none of the developing countries had yet achieved an effective reduction in traditionally high fertility, it reported.
