MOTUNAU SEARCH
Youth Still Missing Coast and sea searches yesterday failed to find Leslie Daniel Beams, aged 20. single, of 14 Lowe street, Riccarton, who has been missing since his fishing boat was wrecked off Motunau Beach on Sunday. Wreckage of his 26ft boat. Micky, was sighted in 15 fathoms near a rock from a Devon aircraft from the R.N.Z.A.F. station. Wigram. on Sunday evening. The sea was too rough yesterday for skin-divers to go down to the wreckage, but they will examine it today if the sea is moderate. It is feared that Mr Beams, who was the only person aboard the boat, was trapped in the boat when it sank. Four parties of policemen yesterday searched 25 miles of coastline near Motunau Beach. A good deal of wreckage from his boat has been washed up. There were two life-jackets aboard the boat, and one of them has been found on the coast.
The coastal search may be continued today.
