58 SEEK PRIZE
Entries A Record Fifty-eight New Zealand architects had entered for the competition to design the Christchurch town hall, Cr. H. G. Hay, chairman of the town hall committee, reported to the City Council last evening. “It is a gratifying response, and probably the best ever received for any public architectural competition in New Zealand,” he said. Cr. Hay listed the entries as 35 from the North Island. 18 from the South Island and five from New Zealand architects living abroad. The assessors began their Work yesterday afternoon, Cr. Hay said. While they expected to complete the firststage judging at the end of the week, the entries had to be checked by a quantity surveyor and an acoustics engineer, so it would be some time before the finalists could be announced.
A public exhibition of all the entries would be held after the second stage of the competition had been judged on May 31, Cr. Hay said.
