The Buchanan Report
Sir, —My hat off to “Innovation" for his splendid idea to provide parking space by making a concrete cover over the idle Avon. But why not go a step further in making use of idle space? Why are houses allowed lawns while parking space is so scarce? Even close to our Square are houses with these useless areas. All we need to solve ' our parking problems is a by-law granting free use of a neighbour’s unused lawn. But let us be fair! The house-owner should be allowed a clear strip of three feet immediately in front of his house to grow flowers. If the sight of cars and trucks upsets him he could shut them out and satisfy his aesthetic instincts by cultivating tall plants, such as hollyhocks and sunflowers.—Yours, etc., CONCRETE FOREVER.
