Endeavour Prepares To Sail South
This dress may not continue for long as the Endeavour, after loading a full cargo of jet fuel and Arctic diesel at Lvttelton, will leave for McMurdo Sound next Friday Originally scheduled to make an oceanographic survey near the Macquarie and Auckland between her two Antarctic supply voyages, the Endeavour’s plans for this cruise were altered after she had suffered ice damage to her port propeller, causing her to limp to Wellington on one propeller early last month. After docking in Wellington, where her port propeller was replaced, she went to Auckland, where she spent over a fortnight. Minor repairs were effected there and many members of the crew obtained leave. The Endeavour left Auckland last Saturday. She is expected to load stores for Scott Base today and will begin taking on her liquid bulk cargo at the oil wharf on Thursday There are no passengers
aboard at present, but two liembers of the Victoria Uniersity staff are expected to ■avel south to take magnetoteter tests on tty? voyage.
When the Royal New Zealand naval supply vessel H.M.N.Z.S. Endeavour arrived at Lyttelton from Auckland yesterday afternoon. her ship’s company were wearing tropical uniforms.
This is her final trip of the season and when she returns she will have a fairly full passenger list, consisting of scientists and others whose Antarctic work will be completed for the season.
