Conversion Progress

(N.I Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. The significance of a major break-through in machine conversion methods adopted by the Decimal Currency Committee of the Cabinet was given by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon). He said the break-through meant next year’s changewould cost much less than expected. The technique adopted in New Zealand involves suppression of the pence rows on most accounting and adding machines and on many cash registers. The tens of shillings row only is replaced. Mr Muldoon explained that where machine capacity was £9999 19s lid, it will become (dollar sign >9999.99—the same figuring capacity.
