HOLY HAL AGAIN
Narrow Win At Forbury Two Southland youngsters fought out a keen finish to the Forbury Two-year-old Stakes, Holy Hal beating the lea-exper-ienced Kllladalr by a short head. Third place, three lengths back, went to Local Frost, a half-brother by Thurber Frost to Arania. Holy Hal, a winner at Rangiora in Deoember at his only other race start, is a sensible colt by Hal Tryax from Sandra Kay, the dam also of Holy Smoke, Young Lad and others. He is trained at Mataura by D. Todd for Messrs J. R. Rogers and D. Keenan'.
Holy Hal paced the mile In 2min 6 l-ssec, a New Zealand race record.
The race was marred by a smash at the end of three furlongs and a half. Stewart Hanover fell, Instamatlc lost his driver and Lucky Gay was pulled up. As well, Montage, Authentic and others met interference.
Kllladalr began smartly from wide out and he took the lead from Local Frost after about 75 yards. ReaMy Good improved wide out to take control before the five furlongs. After the smash Really Good, Broughton, Kllladalr, Holy Hal, Local Frost and Mokoreta were the only horses with a. chance. ♦ Kllladalr took charge at the furlong, but he was worn down by Holy Hal and beaten by a short head. Local Frost took third but was well beaten. He finished clear of Really Good, with Mokoreta and Broughton following.
