HANDY WIN
Trial Stakes To Vanita
Vanita, a half-sister to the good winners Careen and Cinnaman, improved a strong family record at Riccarton in winning the Trial Stakes at Riccarton on Saturday for Mr and Mrs J. C. Irving, of Blenheim.
Vanita, a four-year-old daughter of Marco Polo 11, won handily by half a length from Gingerbread, which beat Brookfields Hope by the same margin. Vanita was forced fairly wide when making her run, so her win was creditable. But Gingerbread’s second was also meritorious.
Gingerbread had to be checked twice when going for a run on the inside of Somara.
Somara weakened to fourth after being responsible for most of the pace.
