Judges Impressed By Papanui Gardens
The 1966 garden competition of the Papanui Beautifying Association was judged by Messrs S. J. Dwyer and R. Veitch yesterday. The judges said that the lay-out of the gardens was of a high standard, and the flowers were of better quality than expected. Results were:— McDougall Premier Cup (open).—Mr E. Rodgers, 10 St. James avenue, 84 points, 1; Mr V. Beggs, 21 Claremont avenue, 82, 2; Mr W. Dailey, 175 Mays road, and Mr and Mrs N. Allington, 155 Condell avenue. 81 (equal), 3.
Rosemary Simes Cup (gardens 55ft and under). —Mr T. Stewart, 4 Blair avenue, 82 points, 1; Mr C. S. Wilson, 5 Christian street, 81, 2; Mr A. Clements, 161 Condell avenue, 74, 3.
Nicol Hart Cup (street frontage).—Mr and Mrs N. Allington, 155 Condell avenue, 1; Mr D. Glue, 150 Harewood road, 2: won a cup).—Miss Kofoed, 154 3.
Mitchell Rose Bowl (garden with most points in open competition not having previously won a cup).—Miss Fofoed, 154 Condell avenue.
Maude Sewell Cup (novice, judged by Messrs C. S. Wilson and N. Allington).—Mr F. A. Boocock, 24 Grants road, 76 points. 1; Mr T. Stewart, 4 Blair won a cup).—Miss Kofoed, 154 Condell avenue, 74, 3.
