Five Hurt In Three-Car Accident
Five persons were injured, one of them seriously, and three cars were extensively damaged in an acci - dent at the corner of Mcßratneys road and Gayhurst road at 6.40 p.m. on Saturday. A car driven by Raymond James Howard, of 27 Ngarimu street, and one driven by Leonard Anthony McEntee, of 17 Basingstoke street, collided and Mr McEntee’s vehicle then struck a stationary car driven by Brian Seelen. of 44 Bickerton street. Geoffrey Morrison, of 165 Queensbury street, a passenger in Mr Howard’s car, suffered serious internal injuries, and was deeply unconscious when admitted to the Christchurch Hospital He was still on the seriously ill list late last evening. Leslie Robert White, of |KI 165 Queensbury street, an- ■ other passenger in Mr Hl Howard’s car, was admitted ■ to the Princess Margaret Hospital suffering from chest injuries and abrasions to the arms. Mr McEntee was admitted the Princess Margaret suffering from head
and shoulder injuries and shock. Mr Howard and Mr Seelen suffered minor injuries. Two St. John ambulances took the injured to hospital. The three vehicles had to be removed by . breakdown trucks. Strack By Car.—When she was struck by a truck in Westminster street on Saturday, Sarah Christmas, aged four, of 255 Westminster street, was knocked unconscious. She was admitted to tite Christchurch Hospital with head and wrist injuries. Crushed By Car.—When a car was being pushed out of a garage at his home yesterday, Tony Pedley of 304 Armagh street, was crushed between the vehicle and a tree. He suffered rib and possible internal injuries. He was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital.
Car Rolls Over.—Three persons were injured when a car rolled over at the corner of Inwood and Mairehau roads at 12.03 a.m. yesterday. Colleen McGeady, of 135 Seaview road, suffered concussion and lacerations to a leg. Pauline McGeady, of the same address, suffered concussion and
chest injuries. Both were ad-
mitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital.' Rodney Shuter, of 109 Bower avenue, was treated at the Christchurch Hospital for a back injury. Cars Collide.—lris Patterson, of 15 Emmett street, was knocked unconscious and suffered chest injuries and abrasions when two cars collided at the corner of Bealey avenue and Victoria street about 8.24 p.m. on Saturday. She was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. William Richard Ayers, of 127 Briggs road, suffered lacerations to the head. Erin Freda Ayers, also of 127 Briggs road, suffered a fractured arm and thumb and lacerations to the head. They were treated at the Christchurch, Hospital.
Ran Into Ditch.—When a tanker ran into a ditch at Birdlings Flat on Saturday morning P. D. Riach, of 140 Smith street, suffered concussion and minor lacerations. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital. Car Hits Pole.—Five persons were injured when a car hit a pole in Pages road half a mile on the city side of the New Brighton bridge at 2.30 a.m. on Saturday. Julie Pettigrew, of 173 Peel street. Waiau, and Douglas Sheldon, of 10 Glandovey road, were treated at the Christchurch Hospital for head injuries. Michael Jones, of Waiau, and Fay Galletly, of 15 Harman street, suffered minor injuries. Three Injured.—A motorcycle and a car collided at the corner of Colombo and Kilmore streets late yesterday afternoon. Heather Joy Jackson, of Colombo street, suffered lacerations to the head. Raymond Murray Healey, of 16 Hollyford avenue, suffered grazes to the legs, and Harold May, of 452 Innes road, suffered minor arm injuries. They were treated at the Christchurch Hospital. Leg Injuries.— Barbara Joy Humphries, of 40 Stewart street, suffered leg injuries when a car struck a pole in Selwyn street yesterday morning. She was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital. Child Injured. Thomas George Higgs, aged four, of 7 Morrison avenue, suffered head and chest injuries when he ran out on to the road from behind a fire engine in Langdons road and was struck by a car at 6.25 p.m. yesterday. He was admitted to the Burwood Hospital, where his condition was reported late last evening as comfortable.
