Judging Today
The Canterbury Horticultural Society has received record entries for this year’s garden competitions to be judged today. The society has introduced a section this year for hospitals and institutions and has received four entries. They are from Calvary Hospital, the National Radiation Laboratory, Loreto Convent, and St. Mary’s Convent. There are three other sections—for factories, home gardens, and novice gardens. The factories section has drawn 11 entries—from T. .1. Edmonds. Ltd., Fletcher Holdings, Ltd., the Disabled Servicemen’s Re-Establishment League, the Sanitarium Health Food Company, Ltd.. the Ovaltine works, the Firestone Tire Company, Ltd., the Atlas Rubber Company. LtdMarathon Rubber Footwear, Ltd., Empire Rubber Mills. Ltd., Superfoam, Ltd., and the International Harvester Company (N.Z.), Ltd
There are 21 entries for the home garden section, an 1 increase of eight on last year. The gardens will be judged according to the appearance and quality of flowers, vegetables and fruit. The novice section—for gardens under a quarter of an acre which have not previously won prizes—has drawn 11 entries.
