Cabriere And Plantation Likely Wanganui Double
"The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. The top-weight double, Cabriere in the Earle Handicap and Plantation in the Campbell Handicap, is picked for the first day of the Wanganui summer meeting to-
day. Besides being the topweights, both horses have drawn No. 1. L. K. Tinsley is on Cabriere and R. A. Jenkins on Plantation. Cabriere, which is seven, has racked up the remarkable total of 21 wins. At least one of those has been over the Earle Handicap course. There is a good deal of Trentham form on offer in the rest of the Earle Handicap field and the best of it is Worthy Chat’s. He was beaten only by half a head in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap last week and the field was much stronger than today’s. Worthy Chat likes to make his own rules and he will find this difficult from a wide barrier draw, but he has the form and ability. It would be a brave punter who would guarantee that he could not be ridden successfully from behind. Form Too Late Patanga sitruck brilliant form just before the Wellington Cup meeting, but it was too late to earn enough weight to get him a run in the Wellington Cup. Last week he ran a good eighth to Creolian and Worthy Chat in the Racing Club Handicap. Today’s distance—a mile and a quarter —is two furlongs shorter but this should not go against him. Trial Offer is likely any day to turn on a devastating display of galloping and annihilate a field of almost any class. The question is: When? She is a great mare, but ill luck dogs her and her form is not what it could be. She had a bad run in last Saturday’s Adams Mile and wound up nowhere, but on Thursday she worked keenly. Though most of her form has been over sprints and miles, there is no questioning her ability to run a middle distance. She won both Oaks and the New Zealand Derby last season. Used To Big Weights Plantation is used to carrying big weights and 9.2 should not stop him in the Campbell Handicap, specially if the track remains fast. Plantation has won three races this season and has finished out of the money only twice in four other starts. Apart from his failure under 9.4 last week ait Trentham bis form is good—two wins and a second in his last three starts. Master Defence, with two pounds less than Plantation, is also' racing consistently. Conceding five pounds, he was beaten by a neck by Price Hagen at Marton last time out after winning twice at Stratford, where Beira was second to him each time. Wavering and Tipperary
Tom look the best of the others on the strength of their placing behind Pheroz Pride last week at Trentham. The track is fast.
