Starving Lambs Tied In Scrub
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, February 4.
The tying of 25 lambs without food or water for a fortnight in scrub and bush on part of a big farm near Karori, Wellington, was the cruellest treatment of animals he had ever heard of, said the owner, Mr L. V. Kilmister, today.
“This is obviously the work of children in their early teens,” said Mr Kilmister. “They must have chased and caught the lambs, then tied them to trees under cover and left them to starve to death. “It was simply chance that we were mustering today. It i allowed us to find them be-
fore it was too late. In the fortnight they have been tied up without food and drink,, they have lost about 301 b each. They are under 201 b now.
The lambs, shorn Romneys, were starving, and dehydrated. They had been tied with clotheslines in groups, hidden in scrub without food or water.
