Rubbish Tin
v (N.Z. Press Association)
WHANGAREI, Feb. 4. The Whangarel Deep Sea Anglers* Club yesterday created an unusual club record. Its weighmaster (Mr R. Mackenzie) weighed in a tiger shark, a rabbit, a penguin, a piece of topside beef, a big snapper head and several long pieces of what could be ribbon fish. AU this comprised the 3571 b tiger shark, a reputed man-eater and the first of the species ever recorded by the club, and the contents of its stomach.
The catch was made by Mr R. W. Moore (Auckland) on a 1301 b line when operating close to the Taiharuru reef not far from the Tutukaka harbour. It took 70 minutes to land the shark and contents. Because it is the first tiger shark ever landed by a club member the catch is a club record and also wins a pin award for the angler. “They are real rubbish tins, those tigers,” said a representative of the International Game Fish Association.
