Applicants should be qualified to undertake basic research in problems of legal development in Papua-New Guinea, including the structure of tribal or village law, the law applicable to the developing indigenous community as it adopts or is brought into contact with more sophisticated economic methods and legal conceptions, and Ihe leva institutions appropriate to the Territory as a fully-developed self-governing State. Preference will be given to applicants with legal qualifications who have had research or administrative experience in com parable developing communities. The person appointed will be expected to spend considerable periods in Papua-New Guinea, for which adequate field expenses are available. The salary of a Professional Fel'low is £A4866.
