LONDON, February 3.

Britain will go ahead with plans to provide defence facilities for itself and the United States among A chain of islands in the Indian Ocean, in spite of criticism at the United Nations. The Navy Minister, Mr Christopher Mayhew, made this clear in Parliament yesterday, when he described as unrealistic a United Nations General Assembly resolution last December expressing deep concern at Britain’s plan to establish a military base on Diego Garcia, the largest of the Indian Ocean island chain.

Grass Fire.—A grass fire on the property of Mr M. Price, 76 Corson avenue, was put out by Sydenham and Headquarters stations firemen at 1.35 pan. yesterday.
