DISMANTLING THE ABU SIMBEL TEMPLES.—The colossal temples in Egypt, undisturbed for 32 centuries, have almost disappeared, with the dismantling and removal of the huge monuments of King Rameses II and Queen Nefertari. All the pieces, numbered and catalogued, have been moved to storage areas before being reassembled on higher ground. The temples would have been submerged by the lake behind the completed Aswam dam.
