SCOTT BASE SKI CLUB
Mr R. Turner As Patron
“The Preu" Special Service WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. One of New Zealand’s bestknown ski-ing personalities, Mr R. Turner, of Mount Ruapehu, has been unanimously elected patron of the Scott Base Ski' Club. This dub is the most southernmost in the world and is situated on Ross Island in McMurdo Sound. In a letter to Mr Turner, the Scott Base leader (Mr M. Prebble), says the selection of Mr Turner “is a gesture of our appreciation for the excellent instruction and guidance you' gave us while we were training on Mount Ruapehu.” “This is the world’s most southernmost ski club and has a membership of 50,” said Mr Prebble. ‘To qualify, all our members have to be able to ski from the top to the bottom of our 200-yard slope.” With his letter Mr Prebble included the distinctive “and very rare” identification patch of the club. It portrays an Adelie penguin fitted with red skis and ski sticks on a navy blue background.
