RAIL STRIKE IN BRITAIN
Mrs Castle Intervenes
(N Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 4. Hopes of averting a national rail strike in Britain rose today. The Transport Minister, Mrs Barbara Castle, stepped into the crisis between 260.000 railwaymen and Britain’s State-owned railways. In a surprise move, she urged railway union leaders and the railways chief, Mr Stanley Raymond, to reopen negotiations which ended in deadlock on Wednesday. Her intervention last night followed a meeting of Cabinet Ministers.
