LABOUR M.P. DIES

Majority Is Three

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 4. A Labour Member of Parliament, Mr Harold Hayman, who held the Cornish seat of Falmouth, died early today, aged 71. His death reduces Mr Wilson’s House of Commons majority to three. Mr Hayman, member for Falmouth and Camborne since 1950, was the first Labour M.P.’ in a Cornish constituency. Falmouth is another marginal seat for Labour. Although Mr Hayman held it for 16 years, his majority in a three-cornered fight in the 1964 General Election fell to 2926.

The only other currently vacant seat is the Central England Conservative stronghold at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
