The Buchanan Report

Sir,—The Avon stream runs through the city and pays no rates. I would put it underground in a concrete duct from the hospital to Manchester street bridge. The area thus regained would come in for parking, rest areas, kiosks, a better approach to the Town Hall, more space round the Edmonds rotunda, etc. Since thinking this one up, I have been told that this has been suggested before, so I take my hat off to him, or her. Christchurch would be no less of ia garden city with this part of the Avon out of sight. Incidentally, it would be a nice job for the local contractors, and would compensate them for the loss of the ob of building the road through the park.—Yours, etc.,

INNOVATOR. February 2, 1966.
