Entertained Climbers

The Japan Society of Canterbury and the Canterbury section of the New Zealand Alpine Club combined to entertain nine visiting Japanese climbers last evening. Nearly 200 members and friends of the two organisations attended the function, which was held at Elizabeth House. They were welcomed by Mr G. Price, president of the Japan Society. The Japanese guests of honour showed a film of a party of their countrymen making the first ascent of Gyachang Kang in the Himalayas last year. The leader of the pajty, now visiting New Zealand (Mr K. Sakaizawa) was also a member of the Gyachang Kang party.
