First Use Of Loch Laird
The first New Zealand speedboat championships to be held on Loch Laird, the man-made recreational lake at the foot of the giant Benmore dam, will be raced this week-end.
The Otematata Power Boat, Yacht and Water Ski Club, has organised the two-day regatta, at which 55 boats are expected to take part in 33 races.
On Sunday, the New Zealand B class outboard hydro championship, the South Island 100 cu. in. V-bottom, side-valve championship and the Otematata 100 cu. in. open championship races will be held.
The following week-end, the North Otago Power Boat Club will stage the New Zealand 100 cu. in. V-bottom championship on the loch.
